Latest Pieces

Here are the two latest frames. One is hanging at White Caps and the other was made as a gift. Black and white photos go very well in these driftwood frames.

This wood, again, is from the Pemaquid area, and reveals seasons upon seasons of being tossed along the sea and finally up on the beach. There's a lot of character in this wood.

Charlie Brooks and his pretty colors

Charlie Brooks, an artist in our collective, has done a series of watercolors for us. The theme is coastal Maine buildings and the paintings are paired with driftwood frames. Charlie is a portraitist and we are currently working on framing a number of his oil portraits. He is available for commission, email us for more information.

New Batch of Frames

Since our last post Maine Found Frames has been going gangbusters! We've produced a bunch of framed pieces which are now hanging at White Caps shop in Scarborough. Many were made from local driftwood and some from a very unique hull which is over fifty years old (a picture of which is at the top of this page).

This piece was made from a lower plank of that hull and the frame reveals the seasonal history of the boat through the different layers of paint which were left intact. The photograph was taken by Eliza Sproul at Popham Beach, and the piece is hanging at White Caps in Scarborough.

First Driftwood Frames

Here's Peter and Chuck (one of the artists from our collective) getting some driftwood from Pemaquid Beach. Round mirrors seem to be what's in store for this beautiful, porous, naturally finished wood. Stay tuned.

Remember that piece of firewood?

Here's the frame, replete with mirror, that that nice piece of oak firewood became. Believe me, it thanked us for its change of fate.

Out of the Fire and into a Frame

Peter couldn't let this nice piece of oak just be burned in the woodstove, so he's making another frame. We'll post the 'after photo' when he's done.

Here's a little bathroom piece that Peter just finished. The wood for the frame was salvaged from the cabin sole of an old Laurent Giles Ketch, and the plate is from the head of the same boat.
